What Size Is a Red Bull Can? Every Size, Explained

Red Bull comes in 8.4, 12, 16, and 20 oz slim cans. Here are the exact sizes, how they differ, and why the slim shape slides around in your cup holder.
In the US, Red Bull sells its energy drink in four slim-can sizes: the 8.4 oz original, the 12 oz, the 16 oz, and the 20 oz. They all share the same narrow "sleek can" shape and simply get taller as the volume goes up.

- 8.4 oz - the original Red Bull can, short and slim.
- 12 oz - the most common size, the same width as the 8.4 oz but taller.
- 16 oz - the larger size for a bigger boost.
- 20 oz - the tallest slim can Red Bull makes.
The key thing they all share: each one is about 2.1 inches in diameter. That is noticeably narrower than a standard 12 oz soda can, which is roughly 2.6 inches across. That slim width is exactly why a Red Bull rattles around in a normal cup holder.
Why the slim shape matters in your car
Cup holders in cars, boats, and golf carts were designed around the wider standard can. Drop a 2.1 inch Red Bull into one and there is more than a third of an inch of gap all the way around, so the can leans, slides, and tips on every turn.
